Nebraska Testing Requirements

CORE Academic Skills for Educators:  Reading, Writing and Math

As required by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), each preservice teacher must achieve a passing score on the Core Academic Skills for Educators:  Reading, Writing and Math.

The following scores have been set by NDE (NAC 92, Rule 23, 003.02) as minimum CORE passing scores:

  • Reading (156)
  • Writing (162)
  • Math (150)

When applying online at ets.org these are the CORE test codes:

  • Reading - 5713
  • Writing - 5723
  • Math - 5733
  • Combined all 3 tests - 5752

The CORE test must be passed to meet Nebraska Department of Education Certification Requirements.

Students must sign up and pay for the computer-based test on the ETS site (ets.org).  The CORE tests can be located by clicking on “PRAXIS®” tests. The tests are taken at a computer-based testing center selected when registering for test.

Content Testing

All students must take and pass the required Nebraska State Department of Education content test before certification can take place. The required tests and costs may be found on the Nebraska State Department of Education website, the Educational Testing Service website (ets.org) or through the teacher education office.  Preservice teachers cannot be certified by the Nebraska Department of Education without passing the content test.  (NAC 92, Rule 24)

NOTE:

  • Completion of the Doane Teacher Education Program is not a guarantee of obtaining certification to teach in any state.  The state granting certification makes the final determination on awarding a teaching certificate to an applicant.
