Inclusive Scholars

Inclusive Scholars is a peer network that provides a multi-year leadership experience to prepare the next generation of difference makers. Over four years, students learn to leverage inclusive excellence to positively impact innovation, equity, and engagement where they live and work. The Inclusive Scholars experience facilitates students' personal and professional success through individual and team community projects, leadership coaching, and skills-based workshops. Students admitted to Inclusive Scholars receive scholarships that renew yearly.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with the review starting December 1, 2023.  Applications received by February 16, 2024, will be given full-consideration for the 2024-2025 academic year.

No references necessary.

Each Society requires accepted students to live in specific residence halls during their first year at Doane.

Hansen Leadership Program: Hansen Leadership Hall (suite style housing)

Inclusive Scholars: Sheldon Hall (traditional housing)

SUCCESS Scholars: Sheldon Hall (traditional housing)

Applicants must fill out regular Doane housing paperwork in case they are not selected for a Society. Students may not transfer out of their housing assignment during their first year without consent of the individual Society Director. Such a move will generally be denied except for demonstrated health or safety needs. After their first year, Shield Society students must follow the standard housing process to acquire rooms for subsequent years on campus.

Provide a introduction video sharing the following information:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Explain why you are interested in joining one or more of the Societies

Please make your video 1 - 5 minutes long. Upload your video to Youtube and list it as unlisted (only people with the link can view it). Please paste your video's link into the text box below OR send it via email to doanehousing@doane.edu. Type “Shield Society-YOUR NAME" in the subject line.

Please upload a copy of your most recent transcript. An unofficial copy is acceptable as long as it has your name, high school, and clear names of your courses.

Students are required to have a high school teacher provide a recommendation about the student’s interest in and potential in STEM, outside of healthcare. Please ask a teacher to complete this form, then email directly to kristopher.williams@doane.edu. Download a blank copy of the Teacher Reference Form.
