The Student Philanthropy Committee is designed for students to promote philanthropy through education for incoming students through seniors. This is a year-long initiative organized by the Alumni Office for the purpose of creating a philanthropic culture at Doane University and, ultimately, increasing student and young alumni giving—whether monetarily, through volunteerism, or shared talents. The program will provide the opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of philanthropy and advancement while helping its members gain experience in a relevant field. There will be an emphasis on developing skills in business, event planning, interpersonal communication, marketing, social media, and cultivating valuable alumni relations.

 


Essential Responsiblities:

  • Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the academic year

  • Educate incoming students through seniors on the impact of donating your time, talent, and treasure

  • Work in a team-oriented atmosphere to brainstorm effective education opportunities

  • Engage peers and classmates by promoting events and reaching out to ensure attendance

  • Help coordinate "Myth Buster Mondays"

  • Help coordinate and execute Doane's "Tag Day" in mid-November (date subject to change)

  • Network with alumni to help share their stories

  • Spread messages using social media (year-long, but especially during "One Day. One Doane.")

  • Participate in regular (generally monthly or bimonthly) meetings to learn about Student Philanthropy Committee initiatives and philanthropy education


Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Attend meetings once (sometimes twice) a month, starting in late September and lasting through April

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in use of social media

  • Interest in learning about alumni, advancement, and Doane history

  • Demonstrated organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent creative thinking, analytical, and problem solving skills
