Katy Hanggi is an Associate Professor and Chair of the English Department. Her disciplinary training is in Postcolonial and Global Anglophone Literature, as well as Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Some of the classes she teaches include: Introduction to Literary Studies, Women Writers, Global Anglophone Literature, and the LAR 101 class The Power of Stories.
Since joining the faculty at Doane, her research has evolved to consider the dynamics of teaching difference, examining the role of emotion, reflection, and identity in the classroom. More recently, she has also begun to work in the genre of creative nonfiction, which brings together her teaching and research for a wider audience.
