Virtual Student Health and Counseling Services

The Student Health Services Office and Counseling Center are excited to announce we will be offering Telehealth services as an option for students residing in Nebraska beginning on Tuesday, March 24th. This will impact student appointments for both The Counseling Center and Student Health Services. Please carefully read the information below to ensure you are appropriately prepared for this new option.

Accessing Counseling Center Services:

Students seeking services will need to download Zoom prior to their session. We prefer you use a laptop, tablet or desktop computer for the video session rather than a mobile phone. When your session is scheduled, an email will be sent as a reminder of the time of your scheduled session. Please review the Informed Consent form prior to your session and provide an electronic signature.

Once it’s time for your scheduled session, your counselor will open the Zoom meeting and connect with you via video. The counselor will need to know your location and phone number in case of video interruption or crisis intervention. Appointments will be available between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

Current laws restrict the ability of counselors to conduct counseling sessions in states in which they are not licensed. Phone consultations with a counselor are available for out-of-state students as well as guidance in finding a mental health professional in your area. Email one of the Doane counselors to set up a phone consultation.

As of Tuesday, March 24th, we will no longer be offering in-person sessions in the Counseling Center for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester.

Accessing Student Health Services:

In an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19, walk-in appointments are no longer available for Student Health Services for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. Nurse Kelly will be taking student appointments through a secure video platform, Zoom, as needed M-F 8:30am-3:00pm CT. You will need to download Zoom prior to your appointment. We prefer you use a laptop, tablet or desktop computer for the video session rather than a mobile phone. Please review the Informed Consent form prior to your session and provide an electronic signature. For students needing assistance, please contact Nurse Kelly Jirovec by phone (402-826-8265) or email (kelly.jirovec@doane.edu).

Accessing a Campus Advocate from Hope Crisis Center:

An advocate can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through Hope Crisis Center’s crisis line: 1.877.388.HOPE(4673). In the event that you do not have an urgent need, you are able to reach out to our on-campus advocates, Andie or Cari, via email at andie@hopecrisiscenter.org or cari@hopecrisiscenter.org, respectively. During this time, Hope Crisis Center is offering meetings via phone and zoom. Email them with your preference and times that would work for you.

If you are living outside Saline County, contact Suzannah Rogan at suzannah.rogan@doane.edu for help finding your local victim services agency to get in touch with a local victim advocate. As Suzannah is not a confidential service, do NOT disclose the incident as she would have to share this with the Title IX Coordinator. Rather, simply send a message asking: who are the victim service providers in [insert city and state]?
