Approval Required For Use of Crete Academic Facilities

Crete faculty and staff,

Given the Crete campus remains open, potentially, there are community members needing access to certain shared academic facilities. Examples include a classroom, research lab, special computer lab, music practice room, art studio, or technology-able classroom. The request excludes offices and regular workspaces. Access to academic facilities will be allowed, but a plan needs to be approved. In general, the university is allowing the use of these spaces to support our faculty and students with limited options.

If a plan is NOT developed or shared for a space, that space will be cleaned and LOCKED and unavailable for the interim.

The approval process consists of:

  1. The department/program/office with the specialized space developing a written plan for that space. The plan should include:
    • Who will be in charge of this space? (e.g., faculty)
    • How will the department/program/office limit the number of students in it (e.g., perhaps they have to sign up for a time slot),
    • How will the department/program/office enforce social distancing between people in that space,
    • List of needed cleaning supplies needed (e.g., wipes), if applicable. Process/steps for cleaning/sanitizing between users. Potentially all spaces will require some level of sanitizing/cleaning.
    • How will the department/program/office will monitor the space to ensure these practices are being followed?
  2. The plan for space needs to be approved by the supervisor and then by the respective Dean, Vice President, or Director for that space.

Once approved, the respective Dean, Vice President, or Director will communicate with the Office of Academic Affairs. Jenei Skillett will then communicate with Jerri Van Horn, Manager of Events & Custodial Services, to ensure that appropriate signage is put in place for this space and confirm that sanitizing products are accessible.

The facilities staff will begin cleaning and securing all non-approved spaces starting on Monday, March 30. Appropriate signage will be put in place to confirm areas that are no longer accessible.
